Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold Smartphone Makes K-Tech Appearance Ahead of Official Reveal

Last week, Samsung debuted its upcoming trifold phone behind glass at K-Tech Showcase in Gyeongju. Two versions sat side by side, one snapped shut like a thick wallet and the other splayed out into a 10-inch slab.

Close-up videos leaked hours later demonstrate how the folding mechanism works. Dual hinges are located on opposite edges. The left hinge bends tighter, allowing the three screen parts to stack flat without gaps. Unfold once to reveal a tall phone with a 6.5-inch cover screen on the front and cameras on the rear. Unfold again, and the cover screen glides right, joining its neighbors to form a single seamless rectangle. From the side, the open phone appears nearly fragile—barely thicker than a pencil—while the closed stack measures 12 to 15mm, bulky but intentional.

Samsung took the camera island from the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Three lenses are housed in a vertical pill: a 200-megapixel main sensor with 100x magnification, a 12-megapixel ultrawide, and a 10-megapixel telephoto with 3x optical zoom. An LED flash tag follows. The power button on the right edge doubles as a fingerprint reader, with volume keys above it. There is no S Pen slot anywhere—early coding already indicated that the stylus layer did not make the cut.

Inside, three small batteries split the load, most likely silicon-carbon cells linked to exceed 5,000mAh altogether. The Snapdragon 8 Elite (the “for Galaxy” model) powers the device, which has up to 16GB of RAM. A titanium frame reduces weight while also preventing dents. The bezels around the inner screen are slightly bigger than the Fold 7, which is a reasonable trade-off for the extra hinge.

Huawei was first to market with the Mate XT, but Samsung’s approach appears more protective. Every fold faces inward, ensuring that the fragile OLED is never exposed to the outside world. Huawei leaves one face exposed, whereas Samsung covers everything in glass and metal. The difference is noticeable in daily use: if you drop this phone, the screens will remain intact.

There is no official announcement yet, but a company spokeswoman informed reporters that the display is for “ongoing R&D,” with a consumer version coming out before New Year’s. Production lines in Vietnam should fire up beginning next month for a short run of perhaps 50,000 units, with the initial deliveries going to South Korea, China, Singapore, and Taiwan. Pricing is rumored to begin at 3 million won, or roughly $2,200, and increase from there.
