The Jiangling SC-01, born from Tianjin Gongjiang Pai Auto Technology and produced under the JMEV brand, is a sleek electric sports car. At around $31,600 (229,800 CNY), this two-seater coupe gives you pure driving fun without the price tag of Western rivals.
Measuring 4,106mm long, 1,830mm wide, 1,170mm tall, the SC-01 is a compact car, similar in size to a Mazda MX-5 or Toyota GR86. With a 2,503mm wheelbase and 380mm center of gravity, it promises sharp handling. It weigns in at just 1,365kg (3,009lbs), which is very light for an EV, thanks to a 4130 chrome-molybdenum steel tube space frame chassis – something you’d expect in a race car, not a street-legal EV. This lightweight frame, combined with a mid-mounted 60kWh NMC battery from CALB, makes the car agile and has a CLTC range of 520km (323 miles). Real world range might be around 186 miles, but that’s good enough for a performance car.

Power comes from two Enpower permanent magnet synchronous motors, one on each axle, all-wheel drive with 429hp (320kw) and 560Nm (413lb-ft) of torque. 0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds, it’s as fast as pricier EVs like the Tesla Model 3 Performance. Top speed is 200km/h (124mph). The suspension – horizontal pushrod with adjustable dampers and forged 7075 aluminum steering knuckles – lets you adjust ride height and handling. 350mm brake discs and six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers, it stops as good as it accelerates.
Inside, it’s minimalist. No big screen or fancy lighting – just a digital gauge cluster, three climate control knobs and a row of cockpit-style switches along the windshield header. Carbon fiber sport seats with built-in headrests and a D-shaped steering wheel, it’s all about the driver. Simple but purposeful, built for function over flash. 5.9kg magnesium alloy 18-inch wheels, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tires (or optional Vitour Tempesta Enzo V-01R racing tires), it’s got grip and agility through the corners.
The SC-01’s handling is its strongest point. The tubular chassis and mid-mounted battery is like a classic mid-engine sports car like the Porsche 911, cutting body roll and sharpening cornering. A 1:06 lap time at Beijing’s Goldenport Park Circuit puts it on par with a Porsche 992 Carrera S – impressive for a car this affordable. Double-wishbone suspension on all four corners, with adjustable dampers, you can fine tune the balance between comfort and performance.
Production delays pushed the SC-01’s launch from 2023 and a sales license required a partnership with JMEV, a joint venture between Jiangling Motors and Renault. The car was built at JMEV’s Nanchang plant but there is no official website or clear ordering process so it’s hard to buy one. Rumors say the project has been sold to Jiangling Group but no official word has been given. For now the SC-01 is targeting China’s sports car niche, competing with MG Cyberster and Neta GT, but it’s untested in terms of sales.
For drivers looking for an electric sports car that’s light and performance focused the SC-01 delivers. Its power, handling and price makes it stand out from heavier and more expensive EVs. The stripped down interior may not appeal to those who love tech packed cabins but it’s a great move for enthusiasts who care about pure driving. If the SC-01 can sort out its production and distribution issues it could change what an affordable electric sports car can be – not just in China but maybe worldwide.
