People cling to their old TVs for good reason: they just function, the picture still looks nice, and buying a new TV, especially one of the larger ones, is an expensive prospect, but Amazon has stepped in and fixed things with the Fire TV Stick 4K Max, priced at $29.99 with promotion code: MAX4KFTV (was $50). This little streaming device goes into an HDMI port, you connect the power, and you’ll have access to hundreds of movies, shows, live channels, and music services.
What really sticks out is how fast this machine is; with a 2.0 GHz quad core processor, it launches apps and menus at the speed of light. Screens load quickly, scrolling is silky smooth, and you nearly never experience stuttering, even while watching demanding 4K content. Storage is a respectable 16GB, so you can keep a lot of programs and the occasional downloaded game without having to worry about deleting everything all the time.

The video quality is excellent, matching that of high-end televisions, thanks to compatibility for 4K Ultra HD at up to 60 frames per second. Dolby Vision provides better colors and deeper contrast while watching something using it, whereas HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG cover various formats. Audio is also impressive; Dolby Atmos provides immersive surround sound when combined with a compatible soundbar or receiver, and pass-through handling for 7.1 channels and stereo is excellent.

Wi-Fi 6E has also improved connectivity by using the 6GHz band, which reduces interference caused by having a large number of phones, laptops, and smart gadgets in the same location. Streaming remains rock solid even at larger bitrates, latency is substantially lower than in previous Wi-Fi versions, and Bluetooth 5.2 allows for a decent connection with controllers or headphones.
The bundled Alexa Voice Remote Enhanced makes it simple to operate everything. Simply touch the mic button, say what you want the TV to do (for example, search for anything, launch an app, or alter the volume), and you’re ready to go. They’ve also included specific buttons for powering on and off, muting the sound, and changing channels on your live TV. The remote can even operate your compatible TV and soundbar via infrared commands, and Alexa is included in so you can ask her questions, control your smart home gadgets, or simply see the most recent delivery updates on screen.

Amazon has also incorporated the Ambient Experience for those moments when there is nothing playing. So your TV just shows some great looking artwork, perhaps some images, or informs you the weather and what’s on your schedule. The AI generates some custom graphics, and the screen saver is intelligent enough to avoid burning in on OLED panels. If you want to save even more power, they have Low Power Mode, which just puts everything into sleep mode when not in use.
Then there’s the gaming side of things, with Amazon Luna providing a host of free games for Prime members as well as a plethora of additional titles for purchase, and Xbox Game Pass allowing you to stream hundreds of titles, including the most recent ones, without the need for a device. When you’re ready to get started, simply plug the stick in, follow the on-screen instructions, and connect to Wi-Fi. Suddenly, you get access to over 1.8 million movies and programs on platforms such as Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, HBO Max, and many more. You can access free live TV streaming news, sports, and entertainment without having to pay for a subscription service.
