Apple’s newest Mac Mini has a lot of power, but it’s easy to overlook because it’s buried inside a basic silver box that blends in with the rest of your workstation. But Spigen has designed the Classic C1, a case that covers the most latest Mac Mini in a fantastically vintage translucent shell that seems like it was made in 1998.
There’s no mistaking the inspiration: the original iMac G3’s Curvy Bondi Blue and gummy transparent shine have returned in a way that will easily evoke nostalgia in everyone who recalls the good old days. They also offer Tangerine, which is a bit brighter and adds a pop of orange to your workstation to brighten it up.
Place your Mac Mini into the Classic C1 and, presto!, the entire thing is completely transformed in seconds. The case is built up of several pieces that fit perfectly around the device, resulting in a robust small box with some real weight to it. The materials are a bit of a mix and match, including PMMA acrylic and PVC, but it means it’s easy to clean and feels strong and trustworthy.
Functionality has not been overlooked in the effort to make everything look gorgeous, as the ventilation slots are perfect, and the side grilles offer a charming touch of Power Mac G4 Cube history while increasing airflow. Then there’s the transparent base, which raises the entire thing a little higher off the desk so you can still get some air in at the bottom, and Spigen has included a basic PVC dust filter to keep things neat without restricting airflow.
Cables still go in and out of the typical spots, and there’s a small anti-slip silicone item to protect everything from sliding around when you’re plugging it in. And because it’s removable, you can just pull it all out and wipe it down if it gets a little dirty.
The Classic C1 covers the 2024 Mac Minis with the M4 and M4 Pro chips inside, and at 5.45 inches by 2.57 inches, it won’t clutter up your desk. You also get a protective layer against those bothersome tiny scratches and bumps which is all great and dandy.
Spigen sells them for $44.99 (or $32.99 on Amazon). It appears like they had some fun matching it up with their other retro accessories, such as the retro iPhone cases in the same colors. It’s a terrific way to bring character to a desk that would otherwise be too sleek and futuristic.
