We’ve long been sweet on the Swedes at Teenage Engineering, who make all manner of synthesizers, rhythm boxes, and other wizardly audio trinkets, all with a drool-inducing design aesthetic. This latest entry pays homage to the classic sounds of roots reggae and dancehall music from 1970s and ’80s Jamaica. The Riddim comes loaded with hundreds of instrument sounds, drum loops, bass and melody loops, and drippy effects—including a dub siren! The included Ting is a CB-style press-to-toast mic with onboard effects. In reggae slang, the “riddim” is the bass and drum pattern—the backbone of the song—and this little dub synth provides that and more. Get this for the bedroom producer, party DJ, or selecta in your midst.
