Mercedes-Benz has revealed its new electric vehicle, the GLC with EQ Technology, a midsize SUV that combines classic styling with modern tech. This all-electric model will arrive in the first half of 2026 and join the combustion-powered GLC, a bestseller that has defined the brand’s SUV lineup for years.
The GLC’s massive illuminated grille, with 942 backlit dots, is a standout feature of the exterior. Unlike BMW, which has ditched big grilles, Mercedes is embracing the trend and making the front fascia a talking point. Star-shaped LED daytime running lights in the headlamps are a nice touch and will be carried over to future Mercedes models. Matching star-shaped taillights and a two-piece roof spoiler complete the look. The SUV’s proportions are similar to the gas-powered GLC but it’s slightly longer, with a 117-inch wheelbase – 3.1 inches longer than the combustion model – which means more interior space.

When you get inside, you’ll see a giant 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen dominating the dashboard, stretching from one side to the other. This is more than just a screen, it’s a command center that combines navigation, entertainment and vehicle functions into one dynamic interface. Powered by the new Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) it uses a single NVIDIA DRIVE-series chip to manage everything from climate settings to driver assistance and grows with over-the-air updates. Circular air vents flank the screen, two rectangular vents below and ambient lighting that can extend to the panoramic glass roof creating a warm and immersive environment. The simple center console with dual cupholders and wireless chargers focuses on clean lines and open space.
The GLC EV comes with a 94 kWh lithium-ion battery pack as standard on all models and is paired with an 800-volt architecture for fast charging. Plug in a suitable DC fast charger and you can add 188 miles of range in 10 minutes, long road trips are much less daunting. The flagship GLC 400 4MATIC has 483 horsepower with a dual-motor setup, with four other variants to come including a single-motor GLC 300+ with 369 horsepower. EPA range figures are pending but Mercedes claims up to 443 miles on the European WLTP cycle which is around 350 miles in US testing. A front-axle disconnect and a two-speed rear transmission improve efficiency so the SUV can cruise on the highway with ease.
Driving dynamics get a boost from optional Airmatic air suspension, borrowed from the S-Class. Paired with 4.5-degree rear-axle steering, it’s comfort and agility in one. The system uses Google Maps and traffic infrastructure to adjust ride height proactively, so it stays low for efficiency even in stop-and-go traffic. Regenerative braking has four levels, with the strongest setting allowing one-pedal driving for almost all situations, and recovers up to 300kW of energy.
The extended wheelbase has room for front and back passengers, 20 cubic feet of rear cargo and 4.5 cubic feet of trunk space. The GLC EV’s towing capacity of 5,291 pounds, with Trailer Maneuvering Assist, makes it capable and luxurious. An optional Vegan Package, certified by The Vegan Society, features sustainable materials, the first for Mercedes and a nice touch for eco-conscious buyers.
Beyond the Hyperscreen, the MB.OS system uses AI from Microsoft and Google to anticipate your needs, like route suggestions and seat position adjustments. Unlike older systems with scattered sensors, MB.OS consolidates everything onto one chip, so it’s faster and future-proof. It even remembers charging protocols, so it can switch between 800-volt and 400-volt stations – a sensible move since only 2% of chargers in the US and Europe are 800-volt. A new heat pump keeps the cabin warm without draining the battery, a nice touch for cold-weather drivers.
Mercedes is positioning the GLC EV to compete with the BMW iX3, Audi Q6 e-tron and Porsche Macan Electric. With its bold design, advanced tech and practical range, it’s a strong contender, but it’s all about pricing and real-world performance. US sales start late 2026 and sets the bar very high for what an electric luxury SUV can be.
