Italian Mechanic Builds Flat Fiat, Might be World’s Narrowest Functional Car

Flat Fiat Panda World's Narrowest Car
Dubbed the Flat Fiat, this single-seater, barely wider than a bicycle, is a functional feat of engineering that’s as much a statement as it is a vehicle. Andrea Marazzi, the mastermind behind this creation, spent a year slicing, welding, and reimagining a 1993 Fiat Panda into what may be the world’s narrowest car. At just 50 centimeters wide—roughly the width of a standard pillow—this machine is a real-life optical illusion.

Marazzi’s journey began in the scrapyard of Autodemolizione Marazzi, his family’s auto recycling business in Bagnolo Cremasco, Italy. The Fiat Panda turned out to be the perfect candidate for his experiment. Stripped to its bones, the car was methodically compressed to a mere 20 inches wide. Marazzi didn’t just hack away; he reengineered the vehicle to retain its core functionality. The Flat Fiat still rolls on four wheels, powered by an electric motor that chugs along at a leisurely 15 km/h (9.3 mph). Its range? A modest 25 kilometers, enough for a quick jaunt through tight alleys or a show-stopping lap at a car show.

Functionality is where this car earns its stripes. Inside, the driver sits dead center, hands wrapped around a steering wheel just like any standard vehicle. The rear, with its sleek, yacht-like curve, adds a touch of nautical swagger to this already wild ride. This is the Flat Fiat, and it’s not here to blend in.

Marcello Marazzi didn’t build this to be your everyday commuter. At just 264 kg, 145 cm tall, and 340 cm long, the Flat Fiat is a masterclass in doing more with less. Marazzi and his crew are now gunning for a Guinness World Record as the narrowest car ever made, which feels exactly right for a project that started as a wild spark of imagination.

Sure, you could compare it to something like the flat Batmobile from years back, but that was a movie prop, all flash and no function. The Flat Fiat? It’s the real deal, even if it’s got its quirks. Powered by an electric motor—cobbled together from Marazzi’s scrapyard stash—it’s a nod to sustainability and a testament to his knack for turning forgotten parts into something extraordinary.
